Cytogenetics Lab

Aims to use modern laboratory techniques to create ways to support the evaluation and classification of Egyptian clover (berseem) Trifolium alexandrinum, and innovate methods of detecting both fast and accurate to exploration the genetic resource. The evaluation of clover genotypes by using mitotic cell divisions study (Mitotic index and frequency of micronuclei and chromosomal aberrations in mitotic cell divisions) and cytogenetics fingerprint of clover genotypes it is our gain now by determination of chromosome number, karyotyping with chromosomal morphological, band structure and FISH markers.

Cytogenetics Lab has extensive expertise in chromosomal Karyotyping with banding and Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization technique. It is equipped with vertical fluorescence microscope (Leica DM4 B) (Leica Microsystems, Germany) equipped with cooled digital color camera (Leica DFC450C), with a Standard and high resolution automated karyotyping software processing (Leica CW4000), Cooling Incubator and a Biological Safety cabinet.
